Hello again, hard to believe it’s about time to turn the page on the calendar. I found a bit of quiet time this evening to write, which is good. Been immersed in so much and so little simultaneously that I almost forgot to do this.
It’s another transitory period in the year when my main job tapers off for a while following a pretty busy few weeks or so, including an unplanned weekend trip to the middle of Kansas. I now get to enjoy some extra free time—at least, in theory. Meanwhile, at the other job, the manager and my only other co-worker both decided to quit without notice on the same day. It’s nice that I was able to take some days off for the holiday, because guess who has to cover all the shifts until new people are hired? Ugh…
I can’t complain all that much, it’s only a few hours per night and I’ll be getting some extra supplemental income during the dead period. This job continues to be a breeze, the worst thing I ever have to do is tell off inconsiderate people for not following the clearly displayed policies. Most people are pleasant to interact with, however briefly. I’ll be relieved when things get back to normal—hopefully the new hires will be as hands-off as the previous staff—but I’m more than equipped to handle these low stakes in the meantime.
Not much else to recount, really. I’ve been buying random things on eBay that catch my eye, setting up a local Jellyfin server and doing some blog writing in my off time as of late. The Windows 98 PC got a replacement graphics card pretty quickly, an Nvidia MX440. It has less VRAM than my previous card, but actually seems to run games better with superior drivers installed. It snowed pretty hard for the first time since earlier in the year, so I spent the afternoon shoveling off the back deck. Thanksgiving was quiet, I relish the chance to have a more low-key holiday whenever possible.
It’s hard to think of what to say at this point. I’m standing at the precipice of another week that seems busy when I think about it, but probably won’t be much different than the last. Just trying to keep my head down and work through some things. I’ve got one eye pointed toward the future, as always.
